My Greatest Fear

I heard a quote today: “Your greatest life lies on the other side of your greatest fear.”

It resonated with me for so many reasons, the most important of which is that I need to come to terms with my fear of speaking out about my “past life” in Scientology.

It’s not that my friends or family will think less of me. I know that they won’t.

It’s that by writing about it here, for all the world to see, means I’ll be the subject of all manner of communication and conjecture.

“Why did she get into it in the first place?” “What was she thinking?” “Why hasn’t she spoken out before?” “She doesn’t seem crazy—was I wrong in thinking she was normal?”

I’m afraid to be known as the “Ex-Scientologist” but really, who cares? Only me.

It’s a battle I fight in my head every day, and one I want to win.

So welcome to my blog. I’ll post as much as I can, whenever I can, to let you know what it’s like to start life over after exiting a dangerous, mind-altering cult.

I welcome any questions or comments about my life in and out of Scientology. I’ll answer them all to the best of my ability. I hope I can help as many people as possible by sharing my story.

  1. Great to hear of you and want to celebrate with you on this new “sort of”
journey in life. Sorry you went through all those miserable years. But better days ahead. Your parents and one scary dog were good neighbors including you ‘kids’. Brent and Quentin and us all live in Northern Ca. You look very glam on your facebook etc. We mostly look like we are ready for a hike or bike ride.

    1. Hi Joy! So nice to hear from you! You and Lo were two of my favorite people growing up. I’m glad that you are enjoying reading my crazy story. It’s been really therapeutic to write it. “One scary dog” — LOL! Yes, he certainly was a handful!
